From funk to feels: BabyJake at Songbyrd Music House

Under the glow of neon lights and the pulse of an intimate crowd, BabyJake delivered an unforgettable show at Songbyrd that combined funk, soul, and a little rock n' roll.

Kicking things off with his infectious groove, BabyJake’s charisma was undeniable. Sporting his signature 70s style, lead singer Jacob "BabyJake" Herring immediately set the tone, showcasing his playful and genre-blurring sound that dips into funk, rock, and R&B. His band—a lively, tight-knit four-piece—added layers of rhythm and depth, creating a perfect blend that kept the crowd singing along from the very first song.

The band opted to open with a cover of the Rolling Stones’ classic “Beast of Burden.” With his own groovy twist, he turned the song into something fresh yet familiar, and the crowd loved every second of it.

Songbyrd’s cozy venue provided the ideal backdrop for a night brimming with moments of genuine connection. With fans just feet away, BabyJake didn’t hesitate to make his performance personal. At several points, he reached out to fans in the front row, locking eyes, laughing, and even sharing the mic for an impromptu singalong.

The rest of the setlist featured favorites like 2019 hit “Cigarettes on Patios,” which prompted a wave of nostalgia, and an unexpected, soulful rendition of Gloria Gaynor's “I Will Survive” that showed off Herring’s vocal chops and his ability to reinvent a classic.

Before exiting the stage, Herring told the crowd he would be at the merch table after the showfans were able to purchase t-shirts and also take pictures with him, which the majority were happy to take him up on.
